Rebuild lost collagen for results that last!

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a Poly-L-lactic acid dermal filler. This means Sculptra is classified as a collagen stimulator that provides patients with a gradual increase in skin thickness and collagen production resulting in fuller volume and smoother skin that can last more than 2 years.

Sculptra is great for those who want a fresher and fuller, younger looking face without the risks associated with cosmetic surgery.

Boosting Collagen Production

By increasing your body’s collagen production, your skin naturally becomes fuller and firmer giving you more volume and a more youthful appearance.

Improved Skin Texture

While Sculptra stimulates the collagen deep within the dermis, this process effects the surface layers of your skin too. In addition to the volumizing and plumping effects, you get improved tone and the smoother texture of more youthful skin.

Long Lasting Results

Depending on the desired results, typically you’ll want 2 to 4 treatments spaced at 6 to 8 weeks apart. The best part is that Sculptra treatments usually last as much as 2.5 to 3 years.

Collagen is the skin’s support structure and helps maintain its shape and firmness.

As we age, we lose collagen’s ‘lattice structure’ that acts as the skin’s support system and helps maintain its fullness and shape. In fact, 70% of skin is composed of collagen. As collagen depletes, our skin loses its elasticity and moisture.

Although there’s a common misconception that facial aging is caused by the years of gravity, the real issue is ‘deflation’. When we’re young our skin structure has no problem dealing with gravity as collagen is quickly replenishing the dermis. As our collagen production slows it’s the loss of volume and structure that is the culprit.

Think of collagen as the springs in a mattress. Through time the springs weaken and lose their resiliency, causing the mattress to lose it’s ability to keep its original form. The result is springs that no longer ‘spring’ and a mattress that sags. There is no injection that can save your bed, but through your body’s natural collagen production system, there is one for your face!

Sculptra Treatment

Sculptra treatments typically take less well under an hour from arrival to the time you walk out of the office. Patients can usually resume their normal day’s activities almost immediately. Technically, there is no actual downtime, however, like with any dermal fillers, there may be some swelling at the injection sites which will generally resolve within a week. Mild to moderate bruising, tenderness, itching, and redness are other common side-effects. Do not get a facial or massage for 2 weeks after your filler procedure. Avoid strenuous workouts and alcohol for 24 hours if possible.

Post Treatment ‘Best Practices’ Instructions

  • Gently massage the treated areas a few times a day for about 5 minutes for the first 5 days after treatment to distribute solution and help prevent nodule formation. This may be uncomfortable and even painful for the first few days, but it can help enhance the results. The easiest time to massage is when the face is moistened with cleanser or moisturizer.
  • Holding ice packs on the treated areas gently for about 3-5 minutes a few times that day will mitigate any swelling you experience.
  • Makeup can be worn a few hours after the treatment.

A few days after treatment, you will look as you did before treatment. This is normal because the liquid delivering the collagen stimulation chemical (Poly-L-lactic acid) will distribute and dissipate. This is when the Poly-L-lactic acid takes over and begins its process. The results come gradually as collagen is being rebuilt.

A possible side effect can be the delayed appearance of tiny nodules under the skin up to 12 months after treatment. They are palpable, but not visible. The development can be minimized by following the post treatment massage instructions.
